About us...

We are here!

We create high-quality, inclusive, and engaging soft-learning non-fiction books for children aged 3 to 14. Our growing list features talented authors and illustrators, some new and close to home.  Our home is in Cornwall, an area of the UK that is well recognised as a centre of creative excellence. We recognise that the time children spend with books is quality time, whether that is reading independently or sharing a book with family and friends. We believe that our books are designed to foster a lifelong interest in reading and that they appeal to even the most reluctant or struggling young readers. We started the company back in January 2011. Hungry Tomato is our original imprint, focused on creating and publishing children’s non-fiction books for schools and libraries around the world. Our aim is to encourage reading and learning through fun and engaging topics. We call this soft learning for educational markets. In just a few years, we have published over 300 titles, with 920+ title licensees across the world, in over 19 different languages.

PASSIONATE

ENGAGING

At Hungry Tomato, we believe in creating a better world for the children who read our books. That’s why sustainability is a core part of our publishing process. From responsibly sourced, FSC-certified paper to eco-friendly printing methods and minimal packaging, we strive to reduce our environmental impact at every step. We partner with printers and suppliers who share our values, and we’re constantly exploring new ways to make our books more planet friendly. Because the stories we tell today shape the future our children will inherit, we are committed to sustainability.

So, we are not one of the biggest fish on the publishing scene, but we are fast growing, and we love what we do. We have established an exceptionally talented team who are passionate about producing and designing environmentally conscious, great books that children love to pick up, read, explore, and treasure. We recognise that the time children spend with books is quality time, whether that is reading independently or sharing a book with family and friends. We believe that our books are designed to foster a lifelong interest in reading and that they appeal to even the most reluctant or struggling young readers.

Whichever imprint we are creating books for, we have in mind that books shouldn’t overwhelm; we want children to want to read our books over and over because they are informative, fun, and open their eyes to a world of possibilities.

More recently The Big Questions Answered is on a mission to show kids the game-changing world of science.  We developed this captivating narrative non-fiction series. to spark children’s natural curiosity to explore the fascinating world of science. Each book makes complex scientific concepts accessible and exciting, inspiring the next generation of young scientists! It’s a stunning illustrated series that was two long years in the making. It has its own website with free downloadable teachers’ and kids’ material, as well as free audio for each book.  All children ask questions and have a natural curiosity. The Big Questions Answered brand champions that notion, with sensitively written narrative stories and visually stunning, illustrated scenes that help to explain the science, and additional online resources.  It’s a series unlike any other and every parent, carer, or educator will love these too!
