ALAN ROWE

Alan went to Kingston University, where he got a degree in Illustration. When he’s not chained to his desk, wielding a pencil or Wacom pen, Alan enjoys playing football – despite the creaking knees – and cycling in the Surrey Hills, a short distance from his home.

MORE ABOUT ME

What inspired you to pursue illustrating?

I loved watching cartoons: Daffy Duck, Road Runner and Wacky Races were amongst my favourite characters. I think they were my main inspiration.

What do you love most about the work you do?

Getting paid for being silly! I can also wear my pyjamas and listen to loud music while I work.

What was your first job? Was it related to the work that you do now?

I had a paper round, does that count? I've been an illustrator ever since leaving art college.

What’s your favourite thing to do in your free time?

I enjoy cooking and eating nice food. I love playing football and cycling to stop myself getting too fat from eating the nice food!

Did you like reading as a child? If so, do you have a favourite childhood book?

I was a lazy child so, unfortunately, I didn't read much. My favourite book was Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. I still love it!

Alan's latest illustrations can be seen in The Big Bonkers Body Book.

Lots of brilliantly funny illustrations, help to explain how the body works inside and out! Kids will go bonkers about this book. It’s a first guide to the human body with all the gross and disgusting bits! There’s plenty of cool illustrations and easy bite-size text, that kids will find both hilarious and informative!
